M&E Apiary

Add to itinerary

M&E Bees is a family owned and operated apiary in Grafton, run by a 4th generation beekeeper.   The operation is continually growing, making honey, collecting pollen, propolis, beeswax, and working on rearing queens from bees imported from around the world, selecting the best genetics for our local conditions.  In addition to managing a busy bee yard, they provide instruction and mentoring to new beekeepers.  The bees are situated on 65 serene acres of mixed forest and field flowers, and next to a pristine conservation area, providing an abundance of wildflowers and nectar sources depending on the season.  The lighter honey is collected early in the season and consists of dandelion, various clovers, apple blossom, and a variety of early blooming trees.  The darker honey is from later in the season, and includes fall flowers such as vetch, phacelia, alfalfa, aster and goldenrod.  The bees are managed using organic principles and no synthetic pesticides are used in the operation.  The honey is tested by the CFIA and exceeds all standards for purity.  The bee yard is registered with both OMAFRA and the Ontario Beekeepers Association.  At M&E Bees, beekeeping is equal parts tradition and passion for new ways of working with this wonder of nature.
